How to Use It
  1. 1
Print the calibration sheet at 100% scale
Open the PDF and print it. In your print dialog, disable "Fit to Page", "Scale to Fit", or any auto-scaling. Set it to 100% / actual size.
  2. 2
Verify scale with a physical ruler
Measure the "100 mm" ruler line on the printed sheet. If it is not exactly 100 mm, adjust your print settings and reprint.
  3. 3
    Measure your actual margins
Use a ruler to measure the distance from each paper edge to the first printed mark. Write those values in the Notes section at the bottom of the sheet.
  4. 4
    Identify feed orientation and front/back
Before printing, put a light pencil dot in one corner of a blank sheet. After printing, check which side the dot is on to identify front vs back. Note which edge feeds into the printer first.
  5. 5
    Pick your darkness level
Look at the opacity swatches. Choose the level that matches the ink weight you want in your handwriting template. Note the percentage.
  6. 6
    Find your natural line spacing
Write a few sentences on the ruled-line section using your normal pen. Identify which spacing feels the most natural — that is your x-height. Set the Template slider to match.
  7. 7
Record everything, then generate your template
Keep this sheet as a reference. Apply your findings in the Font Creator's Template tab (x-height slider, style), and in HandWrite's Configure tab (ink opacity, font size).
